Commission a portrait

If you would like to commission a pet portrait please take a look at the information below. Here you will find a guide to the process, what to expect, and links to some other important tips and information. When you are ready to request a commission, or if you want some more information, you can contact me here.

How does it work?

Step 1 – The Photo

The first step is the most important thing by far – choosing the photo reference! You can find a guide to this here.

To get your painting right I need you to choose a reference photo for me to use which is clear, focused and well-lit. If you want a portrait with more than one pet, I can work from separate images, I don’t need both of the pets in the same picture.

Step 2 – Booking

Once you have the photo, get in touch and we can discuss the painting!

I’ll give you a lead time based on my current queue (by default my minimum lead time is 2 weeks). I’ll then send you an invoice so you know the cost and how to pay. This will include postage and any other extras.

Step 3 – The Sketch

The first stage is for me to sketch out your pet. Once I’ve completed the sketch I’ll send it to you so that you can approve it before I start painting. Please note, once the sketch is approved I request a min. 50% payment before I start on the painting – the remainder can be paid whenever you want, either immediately or on completion of the portrait.

Step 4 – Painting and Shipping

Once I’ve received min. partial payment, I’ll start working on the painting. If you want working updates on this I’m happy to send these, but otherwise I’ll send you a copy of the painting to approve and advise me of any changes you’d like made (please note I can’t change anything that was signed off in the original sketch). Once you are happy that the painting is completed, I will require any remaining payment before sending it out to you.

Refund Policy

I hope you will be happy with the painting you receive however if anything is wrong please get in touch. As a general rule, full refunds are not applicable. This is because throughout the process I will get your approval on sketch and painting stages so the finished product should be something you are happy with. If for any reason you receive your painting and are not happy with it however, I would be happy to offer a 50% refund on return of the portrait in its original condition. Unfortunately I am unable to refund any portraits that are returned damaged unless they were received in that condition. Please retain proof of postage for any items returned.

If you receive your painting damaged due to packaging etc., please contact me within 48 hours of receiving the portrait. I will be happy to refund your purchase upon photo evidence of the complaint, or to reproduce the portrait for you if you prefer.
